Major Kim K Vibes

This outfit was giving me very strong Kim Kardashian vibes when I put it on. The neutral colours, plunging lace up neckline, pencil skirt with cut outs going down the side...thigh high boots. There's literally nothing about this that Kim wouldn't wear.
And yes. She is my style icon.

Coachella is Coming

Coachella is the music festival of the year. It's known for it's music, getting tons of celebrity love, and it's boho fashion.
Today I've rounded up some of my favourite boho pieces for all your coachella and music festival needs.

The Beret

When I think of Parisian style I immediately picture a beret and a nautical shirt to match. It's a very cliche way of viewing Parisian style but, the hat did originate in the South of France in the 17th century. By the 1920s both women and men began wearing berets in France's working class.  The french accessory later became a fashion statement and a symbol of French fashion.
Berets have been showing up recently on the Fall/Winter runways and are making their way to the streets.

Refreshing Your Maxi Skirt

Maxi skirts became popular a few seasons ago and...I'm pretty much over them now.
Since I still have this black one with a long side slit I decided I would give it another chance but refresh it and make it look a little less basic.
March is the perfect time to experiment with typically summer clothing, and mix said pieces with winter ones (hence the knit turtleneck).
Pairing the black maxi skirt with my grey knit sweater added contrast to the skirt. Accessorizing with thigh high heeled boots and adding an architectural drop earring gave my skirt a whole new "cooler" vibe.
Other ways to update and refresh your maxi skirt include wearing one with a blazer and a statement heel or bag for a polished and sophisticated take. Another way would be to throw on a leather jacket and white running shoes for an edgier cool girl vibe.

Crushing on...VELVET

Velvet has been creeping up on the trend chart this winter and yet somehow I still don't own any velvet pieces. It's such a rich and luxurious fabric perfect for fall and winter plus its a great alternative to the greatly popular suede. My favourite way velvet has been incorporated onto runways is on booties, it's a little more unexpected than a velvet dress, though I do think velvet dresses are super elegant.

Most Coveted Material

SUEDE

I've been all over suede for fall and winter this year. The material suits the 70s vibes of the season so well. Carrying the suede trend over to spring can be done effortlessly with a shift dress like the one I'm wearing from Aritzia .

Rodeo Drive

Obviously my favourite places in LA consist of Rodeo Drive and the Beverley Hills area in general, Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, and The Grove. What are the two things they all have in common? Shopping and good food.
I went to Rodeo twice during my visit to Los Angeles a couple months ago. First to have lunch at the famed Nate N Al's, I got the Larry King Matzoh Brei. I guess Larry King goes to Nate N Al's pretty often. The second time I went was to shop around and was also the time my Sister showed me a pair of Tom Ford heels I'll never forget. They are crazy cool, please buy them for me.

The Opposite

Last week I was going on about much I love all white and all I was doing on the weekend was wearing monochromatic outfits. This weekend not so much....I was all about the total black look and loving it.

Mass Exodus

I had the pleasure of attending Ryeron University's annual fashion show, Mass Exodus. The fashion show is put on every year by the fashion design and communications student. Design students are assigned to design a small collection for their personal brand including five looks. The show is also North America's largest student run fashion show. This years curator, Jeanne Becker had the difficult job to choose the top few mini collections to be shown in the Mass Exodus press only show. Whether you like each designers collections or not, you cannot deny that each design student has great talent.

Little Black Tie

In November I got a navy dress from Zara that had a neck tie which is what I really liked about the dress. The neck tie is what also made the dress a little bit different to style. I had always wanted to try the classic french twist hair style but if done with that dress I thought I would end up looking like a flight attendant. Instead of going for the french twist I channeled my favourite fashion decade, the 60's. I wore my hair straight parted to the side with a "pouf" in the back, and a very bold smokey eye.  To accessorize I wore the short dress thigh high boots. I had the front of the dress shortened in the so that a little bit of thigh was visible so the boots didn't just look like heels with tights. I didn't look like a flight attendant at all!
Now here is the sad part ...
I was doing laundry last month and as the inexperienced laundress I am I shrunk my dress into a weird fitting tight shirt. Since my favourite part of the dress - the neck tie was still okay I cut it off the dress and voila I wore it today with a T-shirt.

Mirrors

Yesterday's outfit was very much inspired by Kim Kardashian, she is always wearing pencil skirts with heeled boots in the cold weather so I thought I would emulate that look with a charcoal pencil skirt, a black turtleneck and knee high boots.

Distillery District Take Two

I went to the Distillery District Christmas Market again this weekend but this time with my family and at night. The market is so much prettier at night and it was the perfect night to go because it wasn't cold at all. Clearly everyone else knew it was a perfect night also because there was a huge line to get into the market and every restaurant had a two to three hour wait.
Crazy, but so pretty.

Night

My aunt bought me a pair of boots recently that I had been eyeing online to thank me for babysitting her kids. The boots were shipped to my house Friday night and I was going out for dinner with a couple of friends Saturday night so I was eager to break them in. Knee high heeled boots are a must in my book!

I'm Back....!

So it's been a while. If you follow me on Instagram (@tarynpotasky) then you most likely already know why I have not posted in a few weeks; and if you don't already know then it was because I was travelling. At the end of June I went to California with my Dad where we visited both Los Angeles, San Francisco and minor cities in between. When I got back from California on the night of July 7th I stayed in Toronto for a few hours and then I was off again this time to Mexico with family and friends. Both trips were great experiences, especially California since I had never been before.
