Best Dressed At Last Nights MET Gala

Every year on the first Monday in May is the MET Gala. The MET opens the doors to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's costume exhibition. To celebrate the opening celebrities, fashion insiders and more are invited to the Gala which each year holds the same theme as the exhibit. This years theme is 'Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology'.

Here are my top 20 best looks from the biggest (couture) costume party of the year:

Borrowed From the Boys

Of  course the suit is a staple in every mans closet, but it should be in every woman's too. A good suit is fun and edgy as well as a great alternative for a night out. A suit worn to work with a crisp white blouse underneath can be transformed for night time worn with a silk lace camisole. It's much less expected than a simple black dress or a cute top with jeans.

Crushing on...VELVET

Velvet has been creeping up on the trend chart this winter and yet somehow I still don't own any velvet pieces. It's such a rich and luxurious fabric perfect for fall and winter plus its a great alternative to the greatly popular suede. My favourite way velvet has been incorporated onto runways is on booties, it's a little more unexpected than a velvet dress, though I do think velvet dresses are super elegant.

2015 MET Gala

The MET Gala is one of my absolute favourite events of the year to watch the fashion at. It's a night when Hollywood's best dressed goes to New York City to celebrate costume and design.
As mentioned in this post there is a different theme every year. This years theme was "China: Through the Looking Glass" celebrating the impact of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion. The theme seemed to be a tricky one to dress for so not each guests' outfit corresponded to the theme. Rihanna, being one of the only celebrities to wear a Chinese designer, a wore a custom made yellow cape gown by a Chinese designer who designed the dress on her own and took two years to make. Though Rihanna's dress may be the most impressive, my favourite look of the night was definitely Kim Kardashian's Roberto Cavalli by Peter Dundas naked dress.

The Best MET Gala Looks Over the Years

May 4, 2015 is when this years  MET Gala will take place. The MET Gala is known for being the "Oscars of fashion" as Hollywood's biggest fashion players go out to support the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. Each year the MET Gala has a different theme and attendees dress accordingly. Last year's theme was Charles James. The theme this year will be "China Through the Looking Glass". I'm so excited to see how everyone will dress in correspondence to that theme.

Coachella

I love looking at the Coachella photos each year to see what everyone is wearing. People at Coachella have a really fun time with their style by dressing much differently than they normally would. At Coachella everyone explores their boho/hippie side and I think that's so fun!

A Flare to Remember

I think by now we are all aware that the 70s is huge for the upcoming spring/summer, fall/winter seasons. If you have been following all the fall '15 shows then you definitely know that it is the biggest trend on the runways right now. With the 1970s trend comes flare jeans. Flare jeans otherwise known as bell-bottoms were first adopted in 1813 by the U.S Navy. In the mid 19th century the British Royal Navy made bell-bottoms part of their official uniform. In the mid 1960s flared jeans become popular for both men and women in Europe and North America. In '67 the jeans moved from the high fashion scene to part of the hippie movement. Flared jeans became chic again in the 1970s and were bigger than ever. In 1996 the flare jeans were re-introduced to the fashion scene as boot cut jeans which are very similar to flare jeans but with a much narrower leg opening. Boot cut jeans were popular until 2006 when skinny jeans took over.

2015 marks the rise of the flare and the fall of the skinny.

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung is an English television host, model, a contributing editor a British Vogue, and one of my style icons. She is one of my style icons because her style is so unique and I love the retro twist she adds to every one of her outfits has.

Lets Talk About Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits have been around for a while now and don't seem to be going away anytime soon. Jumpsuits are definitely been a favourite of mine. They can be dressed up or down and are a great alternative to a shirt and pants or dress.

Metallic

Metallics have been seen on the Spring 2014 runways at Givenchy, Saint Laurent, and several other fashion houses. Metallics can be seen on dresses, shirts, and even pants! For those not daring enough to wear metallics so boldly but still want to wear the trend, go for a metallic clutch, nail polish, or shoe.
